New Hanover County deputy manager leaving for Buncombe County job

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WLOS/WWAY) — Buncombe County commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to offer the manager job to Avril Pinder.

Pinder, who is deputy county manager of New Hanover County, will be the fourth person to serve in the position in less than two years.

Buncombe County commissioners said there were more than 50 applicants for county manager.

In 2015, Pinder was named deputy county manager in New Hanover County, after serving as an assistant manager and finance director.

According to her biography on New Hanover County’s website, Pinder began her years of service in the New Hanover County Finance Department in January 2006.

While serving as finance director in 2012, Avril obtained the county’s first triple-A bond rating. Under her leadership, the highest bond rating possible was achieved again in 2013 and 2015.

Pinder’s first day as Buncombe County manager is March 4.
