New Hanover County man charged with statutory rape

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) –  A 20-year-old man is in the New Hanover County jail facing statutory rape charges.

According to arrest warrants, Joseph Wesley Pigford is accused of having sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl.

The alleged crimes happened November 1, 2015.

Pigford was arrested Monday and charged with two counts of statutory rape.

He is in jail under a $500,000 bond.
