New Hanover County mother, son arrested on child sex abuse charges


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – A New Hanover County woman and her teenage son are in jail on child sex abuse charges.

New Hanover County deputies arrested Charri Russell, 38, and her son Talan Kingsley, 16, yesterday.

Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer says Russell knew her son was sexually assaulting a 9-year-old child.

Arrest warrants show the alleged abuse happened between March and August of this year.

Russell is charged with felony child abuse-sexual act. She is in jail under a $150,000 bond.

According to a NC Department of Public Safety newsletter, Russell is a correctional officer at Tabor Correctional Institution.

Kingsley is charged with statutory sex offense with a child younger than 15 and indecent liberties with a child.

His bond is set at $250,000
