New Hanover County students involved in bus crash in Sampson County
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Eighteen students and two teachers on a Hoggard High School activity bus heading to the NC State Fair in Raleigh were rear-ended this morning.
It happened around 11 a.m. in Sampson County. Three students and one teacher were taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure. They were released from the hospital this afternoon, according to the school district.
New Hanover County Schools spokeswoman Valita Quattlebaum says all parents of the students have been notified. Hoggard Principal Dr. Steven Sullivan, another bus and driver, and a transportation coordinator are on their way to pick up the students. Students will return to the school.
Quattlebaum says they are grateful to Sampson County Schools for providing an air conditioned bus to transport our students to a local fire station while they wait to get picked up by a new NHCS bus.
