New Hanover County teacher goes online to raise supply funds

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Back to school means buying supplies. One New Hanover County teacher is using Go Fund Me to raise money for that.

While Ruth Pitstick at the Rachel Freeman School of Engineering in Wilmington said the county and state provide enough funds for supplies, she likes to go above and beyond.

Her goal on Go Fund Me is $1,500, and she’s already a third of the way there. Pitstick said she’s thankful the community cares so much.

“I want to give them the oppurtunity to feel like they took part in helping my kids do some amazing things, and then I can share that with them actually through the website and keep them updated,” Pitstick said.

This is something other teachers across the state are doing, too. According to Go Fund Me, over the last five years in North Carolina, there have been nearly 12,900 campaigns that have raised more than $1.5 million.
