New Hanover High baseball coach appears in court
WILMINGTON, NC (StarNews) — New Hanover High School baseball coach Richard Foy appeared in New Hanover County Court on Wednesday, nearly two months after being charged with assault on a female after an incident that occurred on school grounds.
Foy was suspended with pay by New Hanover County Schools on Dec. 12. On Wednesday, his case came to a deferred prosecution agreement, meaning the state and the defendant agreed to discontinue the case for 10 months.
There is a return court date of Dec. 16. If Foy complies with the terms of the agreement — that he will face no criminal charges, and that records from this incident be kept in his personnel file with the school district — his charges will be dismissed.
Foy, who is also a physical education teacher at New Hanover, has guided the Wildcats to back-to-back NCHSAA Class 3A state championships and a combined record of 56-3 over the past two seasons.
