New Hanover High School on lockdown for more than an hour

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover High School was on lockdown for more than an hour this afternoon because of a student and a photo of a gun.

The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office says a 14-year-old student was at Folks Cafe and texted his friends saying he had a gun. He also sent a photo of a gun.

The school went on lockdown, although the student was never at the school.

Deputies found the student and notified his mom.

No word on whether investigators found a gun on the teen.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
