New Hanover High ‘sheltered in place’ following robbery nearby
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Deputies with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office confirm a high school has ordered a “Shelter in Place” due to a crime reported near the school.
New Hanover High School was put on this status after a robbery was reported at the intersection of 10th Street and Chestnut Street. According to police two suspects robbed a man and ran toward Market Street. The call came in just before 11:00 a.m.
In a “Shelter in Place” students and teachers are still able to move within the school itself but cannot leave. The school is not on a lockdown that keeps the students confined in their rooms. The move was precautionary; there is no threat to the school.
Deputies said the order should be lifted soon.
