New Hanover Regional Medical Center honored for treatment

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – New Hanover Regional Medical Center is being recognized for its heart treatment.

According to a hospital press release, The American Heart Association honored NHRMC with the 2016 Mission: Lifeline Gold Plus Receiving Quality Achievement Award.

The award goes to hospitals that meet certain standards when treating severe heart attack patients.

The hospital says from the time EMS arrives to the scene, to the time a patient’s artery is opened by stent or balloon, it takes an average of 39 minutes at NHRMC.

The national standard is 90 minutes.

If being transferred from another hospital, the national standard is 120 minutes.

At NHRMC, the hospital claims it takes 96 minutes.

“NHRMC is dedicated to improving the quality of care for our patients who suffer a heart attack, and the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline program is helping us accomplish that goal through nationally respected clinical guidelines,” said NHRMC Vice President of Cardiac and Clinical Support Services David Parks.

“We are pleased to be recognized for our dedication and achievements in cardiac care, and I am very proud of our team,” he said.
