New Jersey murder suspect shoots himself in Whiteville

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — The SBI and local law enforcement officers went to an apartment complex outside of Whiteville around noon to try and arrest a murder suspect out of New Jersey.

According to a news release from the NC SBI, while calling for Tim McAllister, 54, to come out, agents and officers heard a gunshot, entered the apartment and found McAllister had shot himself.

He was taken to Columbus Regional Healthcare System.

The Essex County Homicide Task Force in New Jersey requested the assistance of the State Bureau of Investigation in catching McAllister who was wanted for murder and weapons violations in New Jersey.

Members of the Whiteville Police Department and the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office worked with the SBI’s Special Response Team.
