New move-in procedure at UNCW

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)–Classes at UNCW start August 19, but this year moving in looks a little different.

This year students can choose to either move in like normal starting August 13, or drop off their stuff ahead of time and come back to campus later.

Residents are assigned a day and one hour time slot to park their car, unload their belongings, and set up their room.

UNCW officials say they’ve gone this route to promote social distancing by spreading the process out over several weeks and limiting the amount of people arriving on campus at one time.

It’s one of many new precautions meant to keep students and volunteers, and some new undergraduates seem to appreciate their efforts.

Incoming freshman, Eric Foreman says, “I feel safer than I would just be going back to like a normal school start.”

“It’s gonna be different. You know it’s…it’s a little disappointing that things won’t be as normal but…I’m just thankful we get to come to school,” says Seth Jiles, another new student.

On-campus residents who choose to set up their room ahead of time can move back in between August 13-18, but are asked to keep their masks on outside of their dorm rooms.
