New pastry bakery gives back to emergency responders
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A new bakery has now opened in Downtown Wilmington. It’s called The Red Eye Bakery, located at 1011 N. 4th Street.
The bakery is geared toward the early morning risers and those getting off the night shift.
Owner Elaine Brown says the idea has been in the works for about two years. On New Year’s Day, the bakery was finally able to open its doors.
“I really hope that people can come and know that this is just a place full of heart,” Brown said.
From cinnamon rolls, to banana nut bread, to chocolate croissants, Brown makes each and every pastry by hand.
They also offer Black Rifle Coffee, which donates part of its proceeds towards helping veterans.
Brown spent more than 30 years in the nuclear industry. She says that although she hasn’t always wanted to be a small business owner, she’s glad she gave it a try.
“It was an educational process,” Brown said. “I learned a lot, and I’m really happy I did it. I feel like I put some work into it and now it’s like blood, sweat, and tears, coming to fruition.”
She is also using the bakery to give back to those who service our community.
“We offer free coffee to law enforcement officers, EMS, first responders, firefighters. Anyone working a late shift who wants to come in, come get some free coffee,” Brown said.
Brown says she hopes to expand the bakery and open up her own breakfast restaurant one day.
