New project will bring medians and sidewalks to Highway 17
HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) — As Pender County continues to grow, the North Carolina Department of Transportation is focusing on Hampstead with some big plans for Highway 17.
It’s called the Hampstead Median Project.
According to NCDOT, the reason for the project is to reduce delays and congestion by improving operations and safety along that portion of 17.
The project will span about six miles from Washington Acres Road all the way to Sloop Point Road.
Brian Rick, with the NCDOT, says the project is fully funded. Construction will likely start in early 2020.
