New ABC Chief Executive hired

New Hanover County — The New Hanover County Alcohol Beverage Control Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Dan Sykes to the position of Chief Executive Officer. Sykes will begin his duties effective April 1, 2010.

Mr. Sykes hails from Cedar Grove, NC in Orange County. In addition to being a Certified Public Accountant and possessing a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Mr. Sykes’ experience includes eight years as general manager of the Orange County ABC Board, 10 years in the U.S. Air Force where he achieved the rank of staff sergeant, and over 20 years of professional experience in the areas of accounting and finance.

Mr. Sykes expressed his enthusiasm for this opportunity, saying, “I am looking forward to working for the New Hanover ABC Board.” He added that prior to his interview he visited the stores and was impressed with the ways the stores are maintained and the courtesy demonstrated by the employees he encountered. He added he embraces a team approach.

Sykes will be paid an annual salary of $105,000.
