New budget helping with Brunswick County expansion
BRUNSWICK COUNTY — It’s the 14th fastest growing county in the nation. Now a new budget is helping Brunswick County take steps towards expansion.
County Manager Marty Lawing says the proposed $197 million budget will help accommodate the area’s growing population.
Lawing says a large portion of the funds will go towards expanding local emergency and law enforcement services, adding more rooms to the county jail, providing additional response vehicles, and 70 new jobs.
Lawing said, “Public safety is one of the basic cornerstones, or basic services, that we provide. For county government, that’s the Sheriff’s Office, EMS and central communications, 911.”
Lawing says the additional services will provide faster responses and improve community safety. He adds the proposed budget will be under review for the next few weeks with a final plan in place by June 18.
