New deputies take an oath and received their badges

The New Hanover County sheriff’s office has 17 new deputies.

The new officers took an oath and received their badges Wednesday. The graduation marks the end of a 16-week basic law enforcement course offered by the sheriff’s office and Cape Fear Community College. This is the second graduating class from the program.

“It’s just a great day and I’m so happy and proud of all of them” said New Hanover County Sheriff Ed McMahon.

The ceremony took place at the old New Hanover County courthouse. Sheriff Ed McMahon was the keynote speaker.
