New Hanover and Duplin taking part in Secure Communities Program

Two area counties are now better equipped to identify illegal immigrants who commit crimes.

New Hanover and Duplin counties are now part of a growing list of North Carolina counties taking part in the Secure Communities Program.

It provides agencies with immigration history for anyone booked into the jail. If a person is deemed to be in this country illegally, steps can be taken to remove them from the country.
