New Hanover Commission approves budget, tax hikes

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County residents will soon be paying more taxes. In a 3-2 vote, Commissioners approved their annual budget this morning that included a 1.3-cent property tax increase. The property tax increase will roughly produce $4.4 million in additional revenue to help the county combat its $11 to $14 million deficit.

Commissioners also formally approved a quarter-cent sales tax increase okayed by voters last month. That increase goes into effect July 1.
