New Hanover County commissioners discuss land transfer tax
WILMINGTON — Could the land transfer tax end up on a ballot in New Hanover County?
County commissioners held an informational session Thursday afternoon to discuss the possibility.
An expert from the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners attended the meeting to educate commissioners on the taxes they are allowed to levy.
Another tax option is a quarter-cent sales tax increase.
New Hanover County Commission Chair Bill Castor said, “We wanted to get educated before we decided to or not to put it on the ballot.”
Castor says he’s personally against the land transfer tax and Thursday’s informational session does not mean it will necessarily end up on a ballot going forward.
