New law prohibits coastal dumping

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Boat owners: no more dumping sewage in coastal waterways. In an effort to make our coastal waters cleaner, a new law prohibits the discharge of sewage from a vessel into certain coastal waters. It also requires boat owners and operators to keep a log when they pump out the sewage into a marina’s holding tank.

Marina owners and operators will also be required to report unlawfully discharged sewage to law enforcement. The law goes into effect tomorrow.
