New program offers help for those living with a disability
Last week, we told you about possible funding cuts for local programs that help the disabled.
A new program in town will not be affected by these budget cuts.
The Disability Resource Center is now open on Cinema Drive in Wilmington.
The center offers information on community services for those living with a disability, and their caretakers.
Disability Resource Center executive director Gloria Garton said, “You might not know where to begin to look for information and we encourage consumers to come to us and we can help you navigate through the very somewhat complicated resources and help point you in the right direction.”
There is no charge to take advantage of the center’s services. It is funded by state grants that are not affected by cuts to the mental health industry.
Garton said if local mental health programs are cut, the center will just have to work that much harder to find services for their clients.
