Newlywed killed while riding her bike; friends and family distraught
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Friends and family are mourning the loss of Megan Mcclellan.
To many of them, it doesn’t seem real and say they wish it was just one bad dream.
“I just broke down crying. Like, I didn’t want to believe it,” Heather Webster, a coworker and friend, said.
Many are still coping with her loss and sorry to see there friend and co-worker gone.
Newly released 911 calls made from the driver of the 18 wheeler show he was panicked and stayed on the line until an ambulance arrived.
“I got an emergency. I just-I just hit someone…Oh my God. I didn’t see her man. I did not see her,” Webster said.
Police say he collided with Megan while she was riding her bike on 17th street near College Road. She was on her way to visit with her coworkers at Zaxby’s, who still can’t believe what happened.
“I saw her an hour before it happened, and then…no more. It’s kind of hard to understand and explain how I feel,” Webster said.
Now all that is left is memories of her presence and kind spirit.
“She was just very sweet, like she probably had the biggest heart here, out of all of us…it’s just very hard,” Webster said.
Photos from Facebook show she was recently married. Her coworkers say it was the happiest she’s ever been.
Flowers, a pink ribbon and her uniform all make up the memorial in her honor.
“We will always remember you. We will never forget you and your spirit will always be here at Zaxbys,” Webster said.
“You always greeted me with a hug and with a smile and always asked me how my day was going and…I just miss you a lot and…that’s honestly all I could say right now,” Edwin Camacho, a friend and coworker, said.
We reached out to Wilmington police tonight to find out the status of the investigation, but we have not heard back.
They did not release any new information, the name of the driver, or if he faces any charges.
