NHCS proposes changes to ‘skinny jean’ policy
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A New Hanover County Schools committee met Wednesday to make changes to its student dress code, which has caused a stir recently.
The group proposed to remove the term “skinny jeans” from the dress code policy, but will still use the terms “leggings” or “excessively tight-fitting pants.” District spokeswoman Valita Quattlebaum said those leggings and tight pants “must be covered by a longer top.”
Quattlebaum said this policy will be applicable to middle and high schools in the county. She said elementary school principals will have discretion over dress code policies.
The proposed changes will now go to the full board at its meeting on Tuesday.
