BOE considers renaming New Hanover County elementary school

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The name of a Walter L. Parsley Elementary School in New Hanover County is being called into question.

At Tuesday night’s meeting, the New Hanover County Board of Education discussed the possibility of renaming Parsley Elementary.

The board decided it wanted to have a discussion with the Parsley family about the topic of renaming the school before making any decisions.

A spokeswoman for the school district says the board also wants to allow the Policy Committee to take a look at Board policy related to assigning names.

No decisions were made at Tuesday’s meeting.

The board will discuss the agenda item of renaming the school again at its regular meeting on August 4 at 5:30 p.m.
