NHCS settles with state following scaffolding incident
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Schools has settled its case with the N.C. Department of Labor after two men fell from a piece of equipment at New Hanover High last year.
Two electricians fell from a scaffold in Brogden Hall at NHHS last July. After the incident, the state fined the school system for more than $31,000 in November on five violations the state deemed serious. The citations ranged from improper use of the equipment itself to the lack of helmets provided to the injured men.
At a meeting with the state last month, officials settled for a fine of $20,475, which the school system paid for last week.
