Orlando shooting 1st responder to discuss mass shootings
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Dr. Marc Levy, one of the first doctors to respond to the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando last year, will address the importance of mass casualty drills at the 28th annual Trauma Symposium this Friday at 8:00 a.m. at the Wilmington Convention Center.
Just months after practicing for an active shooter drill, Levy and his team treated 44 gunshot victims.
Thomas Clancy, Medical Director of the Trauma Center at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, which is hosting the event, said that Dr. Levy’s experience is invaluable to doctors and emergency responders.
“It’s every community’s worry that something like that could happen. They’re spontaneous. They’re deadly. And there are many things we can do to prepare for addressing them,” he said.
The event is will be hosted by both the New Hanover Regional Medical Center and the South East Area Health Education Center.
At least 400 people from across the state have signed up.
