NHSO investigating road rage incident that escalated into a shooting

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a road rage incident that escalated into a shooting, resulting in a female driver being struck.

The sheriff’s office said the victim was transported to the hospital and is currently in stable condition.

NHSO is asking the public to help gather information that may be critical to the investigation.

Investigators said if you were traveling eastbound on Interstate 140 on April 24, 2025, between the hours of 10 p.m. and 11 p.m., and saw any incidents of road rage or suspicious behavior involving motor vehicles, your information could be vital to the case.

Even if you believe what you saw was minor or insignificant, even the smallest detail may help create a clearer picture of the events under investigation.
