NHSO Vice & Narcotics Detectives make arrest in heroin investigation
New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics Detectives concluded a six week investigation with the seizure of 187 bags of heroin and the arrest of one subject.
Late Friday night August 13th, Sheriff’s Detectives arrested Elijah Lee Spears in the 1200 block of Korneagy Avenue. As a result of their investigation, Spears was charged with several counts of trafficking in heroin, and bond was set at $500,000. Detectives seized 187 bags of heroin, which has a street value of more than $5000.
The investigation revealed that Spears, a validated Blood gang member, was a major distributor of heroin in the Wilmington area. “Spears was supplying a significant amount of heroin into our community. Every time we take a drug trafficker off the streets it’s a victory”, said Capt. David Ciamillo.
