Nifong contempt hearing resumes
DURHAM (AP) — A lab director who prepared a DNA report that failed to highlight evidence that would clear Duke lacrosse players of rape charges says it was just a misunderstanding.
The testimony of Brian Meehan came this morning in a criminal contempt hearing for former Durham District Attorney Mike Nifong, who has been disbarred and resigned because of his handling of the case.
Attorneys for three players accused of raping a stripper at a party want Nifong punished for initially telling the court he had disclosed all the test results he knew.
A report given to the defense stated that DNA testing results linked none of the accused lacrosse players to the crime. But the report failed to mention genetic material from other unidentified males was found on the woman.
