No charges in Leland PD missing evidence probe
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — There’s not enough evidence for criminal charges against former Leland Police officers after an investigation about missing evidence. That’s the word from District Attorney Jon David after a SBI investigation into missing evidence at the Leland Police Department.
“The case will remain open in the event that we receive additional information,” David said in a statement.
The town fired Richard Christopher. Officers Ryan O’Connor and Patrick McGowan resigned, though McGowan’s attorney says McGowan was not tied to the missing evidence issue and was wrongly identified as being part of the investigation.
The DA said that he has offered his findings to Police Chief Mike James to make any personnel decisions.
