No recount this time, as Wilcox holds off Lewis for Carolina Beach mayor

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Two years after their race for mayor ended with a seven-vote margin, incumbent Dan Wilcox had an easier time holding on to Carolina Beach’s top elected office against his predecessor.

Unofficial returns show Wilcox grabbed about 60 percent of the vote in beating Bob Lewis, who served as mayor before Wilcox unseated him in their tight battle in 2013.

“People saw the issues and they turned out to vote and I think that’s a great thing. That’s what it’s all about,” said Wilcox after his victory.

Wilcox said he is grateful to everyone who ran for any position because elections such as these are incredibly important to the town process.

“I’m still going to be very actively involved in the community. I’m a community leader. I’ll be doing a lot of volunteer work. The same volunteer work I’ve been doing the last 2 years,” said Lewis.
