No shortage of fun in the sun at SummerFest 17 in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Lots of people packed into Battleship Park in Wilmington Saturday for SummerFest 17. It was all about having fun in the sun as the dog days of summer come to an end.

There were plenty of options for family fun, like live music, vendors, food trucks, and much more.

The festival was held to promote the community and the resources it has to offer its residents.

The reptiles at Fresh Start Rescue were a big attraction, especially for kids. It’s a great opportunity for the nonprofit to get their name out there and find snakes, lizards, and turtles a new home.

“It’s always awesome when we come down here. We can get the kids introduced with some stuff that will probably never have another chance to touch or hold. We try to draw some attention to our rescue. We’re a 501c nonprofit. We’ve got three facilities in Wallace, Southport, and Boiling Springs,” said Bruce Felker, a member of Fresh Start Rescue’s Brunswick County team.

This was Fresh Start Rescue’s second time coming out to SummerFest.
