North Brunswick honors state champion track team, to name stadium in honor of Garry Bishop

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Monday’s sports banquet for North Brunswick athletes turned out to be a special event. The Scorpion state champion boys track and field team was recognized for their outstanding achievement. The Scorpions won the 2-A state championship over the weekend for outdoor track and field for the second year in a row.

Monday’s banquet in Leland ended with a big surprise. North Brunswick director of athletics Randy Fennell announced that the North Brunswick football stadium/track complex will be named in honor of longtime coach Garry Bishop.

Garry Bishop recently announced that he’ll be stepping down as the North Brunswick football coach, but Bishop will continue to serve as the track coach for the Scorpions.
