RALEIGH, N.C. (WWAY) — North Carolina Emergency Management has extended its Hurricane Helene Disaster Case Management Program through Jan. 22, 2027, allowing case managers to continue assisting households recovering from the storm.

Officials said the program will stop accepting new participants after Aug. 31, 2026, so case managers can focus on existing cases and prepare for the program’s transition and eventual conclusion.

The Disaster Case Management Program provides coordinated, survivor-centered support to households affected by Hurricane Helene as they continue their recovery.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to continue assisting Helene survivors,” North Carolina Emergency Management Director Will Ray said in a news release. “This extension ensures that survivors and families still working through the recovery process have continued access to case management support as we plan for the program’s intentional and thoughtful wind-down.”

State officials said they are working with local and statewide recovery partners to ensure a smooth transition for survivors. Additional details about the program’s timeline are expected later this summer and early fall.
