North Brunswick Sanitary District denying water line permits

LELAND — Brunswick County may be growing fast, but the North Brunswick Sanitary District is worried about wavering water pressure.

The Sanitary District is denying two major developments — Mallory Creek and Brunswick Forest — new permits to connect to the districts water lines. Both neighborhoods have recently been annexed by the town of Leland.

The district is asking Brunswick Forest to pay for an elevated water tank to ease water pressure problems….which could slow development.

Leland Town Manager Bill Farris said, “It could affect the number of houses built, the population growth of the community, the tax base growth, and in the short run it could affect our revenues for our budget.”

The elevated water tank would cost the developer close to $2 million. The Sanitary District says it will not lift the ban unless a deal is reached on building the water tank.
