North Carolina State develops do-it-yourself watering guide

RALEIGH (AP) — Scientists at North Carolina State are promoting a do-it-yourself watering guide.

The university and state Climate Office developed the system they hope will save millions of gallons of water as most of the state experiences a drought.

The Turf Irrigation Management System can show how much water a front lawn needs.

The system uses the type of grass, strength of the sprinklers, local weather conditions and local watering rules to calculate how long people should water.

The Web site is www.TurfFiles.ncsu.edu/TIMS.
