Northeastern NC warned of smoke from wildfire
RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Air quality officials have issued an air
pollution advisory for northeastern North Carolina as smoke from a
Dare County wildfire is expected to shift northward.
The advisory is in effect on Friday for residents from
Washington to Roanoke Rapids, Elizabeth City and the northern Outer
Banks. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources says
people in those areas could experience unhealthy air quality, and
sensitive groups are advised to avoid or reduce prolonged or heavy
exertion outdoors.
Forecasters predict Code Red, or unhealthy air quality, in Dare,
Tyrrell and Hyde counties. Code Orange conditions, or unhealthy air
quality for sensitive groups, is predicted for Camden, Chowan,
Currituck, Dare, Gates, Hyde, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Tyrrell and
Washington counties. Intermittent Code Orange conditions are
possible in Greenville, Tarboro and Roanoke Rapids.
