Novant Health brings Bookelicious reading program to hospitalized children in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Hospitalized children at Novant Health Betty H. Cameron Women’s & Children’s Hospital now have a new way to stay engaged during their hospital stay, thanks to a partnership with Bookelicious.
Funded by the Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation, the new program is designed to help children discover books that match their interests and encourage a love of reading while receiving care.
Bookelicious is a reading discovery platform used in schools across the country. The program allows children to create personalized “Bookmojis,” which recommend books based on each child’s interests and reading preferences.
In addition to access to the digital platform, the hospital now offers a collection of more than 600 books that children and their families can browse and enjoy during their stay.
The program is available at Novant Health Betty H. Cameron Women’s & Children’s Hospital, which includes both a pediatric inpatient unit and a pediatric intensive care unit.
Hospital leaders say the initiative is intended to provide comfort, promote literacy, and help make a child’s time in the hospital a more positive experience.
