Nuclear plant tests emergency response drill

The nuclear power plant in Brunswick County tested it’s facility to make it safer.

The plant is tested it’s disaster response program until nine Tuesday evening. The purpose is to identify areas of the drill that need improvement. Brunswick County and other local agencies were involved, responding to different emergency scenarios.

“Progress Energy is a big part of our community and we want the public to know that we train with them and work with them so that we can make sure we can keep the public safe in the event of an incident here,” Scott Garner, Deputy Directory of Emergency Services said.

The plant runs drills several times a year, but a spokesperson says this one was more extensive than usual.
