Number of people applying for food stamps is on the rise

There is more evidence that the economy is taking its toll here at home.

Lines for the state Food Stamp Program are growing, and many of those are apparently first time applicants.

In June there were 960,000 North Carolinians on food stamps. Now, five months later that number has jumped to more than a million; an increase of 90,000 food stamp recipients.
