Oak Island issues boil water advisory

OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — Crews are working to fix a damaged water main in Oak Island that is causing a widespread water pressure problem.

The town says water will be off on East Yacht Drive between East 18th and East 28th streets for the next few hours as crews repair the damage.  Periods of low or no pressure in the distribution system increases the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system.

Once water is restored, you should boil all water used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes or preparing food.

Vigorous boiling for one minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water.

The town is strongly urging the water consumers to conserve water whenever possible.

This advisory remains in effect until further written notification is issued.
