Oak Island kids learn what it takes to be a firefighter
OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — It was a hot day, but a group of kids braved the heat to find out what it takes to be a firefighter.
Their experience is part of the first ever Oak Island Junior Fire Camp. The week long program is teaching 9-12 year olds fire safety, CPR, and water safety.
Fire marshal Joseph Snapp said they hope the kids will take their experiences and education back into the community.
“It actually gives the kids a chance to learn how to give back to the community by being a volunteer firefighter, paid firefighters, EMS, some rescue,” Snapp said. “You know, we try to get more people involved.”
The kids will have a special competition and graduation ceremony for the camp on Friday.
