Oak Island mayor to head up NC tourism networking group

OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) – Oak Island Mayor Cin Brochure has a new title.

She’s now the Chair of the NC Association of Resort Towns and Convention Cities. Brochure was elected during the group’s meeting in Raleigh on Sunday.

According to a news release, the Association is an affiliate organization of the NC League of Municipalities with a mission ‘to unite the resources of Resort Towns and Convention Cities as a means to enhance the economies of towns, cities and the state of North Carolina by seeking support for the travel and tourism industries.’

Brochure’s term will be for one year, after which she will serve as immediate past chairman.

“I’m excited to work with this group of elected officials and managers from across the state,” Brochure said. “There are many issues mountain towns, beach towns, convention cities and other tourism destinations have in common. We can all benefit from working together and with our state leaders.”

The association was established in 1983 to allow destination towns to network with each other and provide a united voice concerning legislative issues that affect the membership.

The following members were also elected to serve this year: Brenda Lyerly, Vice-chair, Mayor of Banner Elk; Tony McEwen, Secretary, Assistant to the City Manager for Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs-Wilmington; Scott Fogleman, Immediate Past Chair, Blowing Rock Town Manager; Kermit Skinner, Board member, Manteo Town Manager; and Bob Edwards, Board member, Mayor of Nags Head.
