Oak Island retiree embarks on 6 week adventure on The Pinta!
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It was supposed to be a tour of the two tall ships that sailed into the Port City. It is now a journey on board one of them at sea!
Oak Island’s Ted Edwards and Jill Mead were exploring The Nina and The Pinta while they were in town. One of them got bit by the adventure bug and is now part of the crew. Jill says that while they were touring the ships, Ted started chatting it up with the first mate about volunteering. Next thing you know, he’s submitting an application and is selected as a deckhand on The Pinta. They left port Saturday night. Jill says he’ll be at sea for 6 weeks.
Check out what he’s doing everyday as a deckhand here.
The Columbus Foundation’s mission is to use the replicas to educate the public on two of the ships Christopher Columbus used on his four voyages of exploration over 12 years.
