Oak Island teen charged with fraud

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — An Oak Island teenager is accused of swindling people out of more than $100,000.

Brunswick County Detectives arrested David Alan Topping, 19, and charged him with obtaining property by false pretense and felony securities fraud.

Detectives said for the past few months, Topping solicited about twenty people via social media and cold calls to invest in “Stark Innovations, LCC.” Investigators said this was an investment scheme meant to defraud money out of people. Over $130,000 was taken in fraudulent investments from Topping.

Topping is in jail under a $250,000 bond.
