OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — Oak Island Police say they arrested assistant Water Rescue chief Robert Reece Simmons for DWI yesterday after responding to the crash of a helicopter.
According to an arrest report, Simmons left the scene of a car accident near the Yaupon Pier after backing into another vehicle. Simmons first breath test showed a blood alcohol level of 0.14. That’s well above the legal limit of 0.08.
