Oak Island being fought for new annexation

Residents along Long Beach Road have taken steps to fight annexation by the neighboring town of Oak Island.

Nearly 400 people have signed a petition asking the court to stop the annexation attempt. The petition was filed almost two weeks ago in Brunswick County court. The petition claims the town did not adopt the annexation ordinance properly. Long Beach Road area is one of two areas Oak Island is trying to annex. The other is the Oakwood Glen subdivision, which hasn’t filed anything yet.
