Obama, McCain ahead in Elon University Poll of NC residents
RALEIGH (AP) — A new poll shows Barack Obama leading Hillary Clinton among North Carolina residents likely to support a Democratic candidate for president.
The Elon University Poll released Friday shows the Illinois senator with 45 percent of the support of those surveyed, compared to 31 percent for the New York senator and former first lady.
The results come less than three months before North Carolina’s May 6 primary. In the last Elon poll released in September, Clinton had a 2-to-1 advantage over both Obama and former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards.
The new poll also showed John McCain with a 62 percent to 24 percent advantage over Mike Huckabee among those planning to support a Republican.
