Ocean Isle Beach commissioner charged with DWI


BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A commissioner in Ocean Isle Beach was charged with driving while impaired over the weekend.

Robert “Bob” Williams, 74, was arrested by the NC Highway Patrol on Friday night. Trooper King with the NC Highway Patrol confirms it happened around 8:00 p.m. on Cumberland Street in Ocean Isle Beach.

Williams was booked and released on the same night.

When reached by phone, Ocean Isle Beach Mayor Debbie Smith said she knew Williams was charged but had no other comment.

Calls to Williams’s business and cell phone were not immediately returned.

He is scheduled to appear in court on May 16.
