Ocean Isle Beach, Wrightsville Beach receive funding for nourishment project

SOUTHEASTERN NC (WWAY) — Ocean Isle Beach and Wrightsville Beach are expecting to start work on their beach nourishment project.

The Town of Ocean Isle Beach says, on their Facebook page, the US Army Corps of engineers awarded the money. It went to Wrightsville Beach and Ocean Isle Beach Coastal Storm Risk Management Periodic Nourishment contract.

The contract was awarded to Weeks Marine, Inc. for more than $13 million.

The project is expected to begin this winter.

It will also help provide sand to help combat erosion on the east end of the island.
